 Hey fantastic Cleveland staff, teachers, clubs and teams!  The AUCTION is coming Saturday, 3/2 at Oaks Park.  The theme is “A Nite on the Red Carpet, Hollywood style”.  Do you have goods or services to contribute? We know you do! How about Theme Baskets from the clubs and teams?  Baskets are popular items at the silent auction and they help promote a sport or organization.  We need your contributions by 2/15 to get everything in the catalogue.  Contact Erik Funke for pick-up: #503 234-4403/email: erikfunke@msn.com  Make a contribution, organize a basket NOW, so you can ignore our requests later.

IB NEWS: All IB “full” Diploma Juniors should plan to attend one of two meetings following their 4th or 8th period finals next week.   Meetings will be held in the CHS Library at 1:45 p.m. on either Tuesday, 1/29 or Wednesday 1/30.  Each meeting will last approximately one hour and will introduce the Extended Essay and offer a forum for questions on CAS requirements.  Please see Ms. Wiandt in Room 230 with questions.

COUNSELING:
Second semester night school registration has begun.  See your counselor in the SSC to register.  The last day to register with your counselor is February 12th and classes begin February 19th.

The CCC will be open Monday, 9-3, but closed the rest of the week during finals.

Seniors planning on a two year degree from a community college, see you counselor about the $5000 Venture Scholarship.  Last year three Cleveland students got this scholarship!

JUNIORS & SENIORS:
Are you considering a career in technology?  Do you love Facebook, Twitter, and Video games?  If so, stop by room 209 to see Ms. Calhoun and learn about the Cambria Career Day.  This is a great opportunity to explore this area of work and have fun at the interactive career event.  The event will be held on Wed, 2/13.  Limited spots available so don’t miss out on the chance of a lifetime!!!!

SECOND STORY is hosting a career event for juniors and seniors who are interested in Art, Film, Drama, and Design.  This career event is being held on 2/12.  You will see behind the scenes of storytelling and being moved by the wonders of the world!  Stop by room 209 for application information. ELL Sophomores and seniors: Sign up for an International leadership conference taking place Thursday 2/21.  Join other Portland ELL high school students for a full day of workshops, speakers, music, art, food and fun!  See Ms. Goldbloom in room 311 to sign up for this event.

Habitat for Humanity Build Day: We need you! Spots are still available for the Habitat for Humanity work day on February 1st. If you are 16 or older you can help build a house on your day off! Students will receive 7 hours of community service. No building experience necessary. See Ms. Cook in room 281 for information and required waivers. A list of confirmed students volunteers are posted on the outside of room 281.

Search for Scholarships every Thursday morning beginning at 8am in the CCC. Experienced volunteers will help you complete your OSAC scholarship application, search for appropriate scholarships, and help with essays.

Attention everyone! This is extremely important!  Two First Names club will be taking yearbook photos at the beginning of lunch Friday 1/25 in Mr. Nim’s room 115.  Everyone is welcome!  There will be pizza provided but first come first served!

Auditions for performances at graduation will be held on Tuesday, 2/12, during lunch in the choir room.  The content of the audition must be exactly the same as what will be performed at graduation.  Only seniors may audition.  If you would like to audition, and have not already told a member of Senior Class Cabinet, please put a note in Ms. Blattner’s box with your name and performance type.

Abby’s Closet, in conjunction with TJ Maxx, is once again sponsoring a $1,000.00 scholarship for one well-deserving, college bound girl, graduating in 2013.  All applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5; expect to attend a trade school, community college, university, etc. and plan to attend the Abby’s Closet Prom Dress Giveaway to get a free gown to wear to their prom or senior formal event.  Complete details about the scholarship are available at www.abbyscloset.org

COUNSELING:
Night School: Second semester night school registration has begun.  See your counselor in the SSC to register.  The last day to register with your counselor is February 12th and classes begin February 19th.

It’s back!  Portland’s Engineering week is hosting a high school event on February 20th.  The event is from 1:30- to 8:30, dinner included!  It is a great chance to explore different careers and talk to a variety of local companies such as Boeing, Port of Portland, Legacy Emanuel, OHSU, and PSU Engineering.  It is a huge event that you don’t want to miss!  Stop by room 209 to see Ms. Calhoun for registration information.

SENIORS:
Auditions for performances at graduation will be held on Tuesday, 2/12, during lunch in the choir room.  The content of the audition must be exactly the same as what will be performed at graduation.  Only seniors may audition.  If you would like to audition, and have not already told a member of Senior Class Cabinet, please put a note in Ms. Blattner’s box with your name and performance type.

If you consider yourself a Humanist, or are curious about what that means, check out the scholarship file in the SSC. The Humanists of Greater Portland are offering a $2000 scholarship to one Portland High School senior.

Abby’s Closet, in conjunction with TJ Maxx, is once again sponsoring a $1,000.00 scholarship for one well-deserving, college bound girl, graduating in 2013.  All applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5; expect to attend a trade school, community college, university, etc. and plan to attend the Abby’s Closet Prom Dress Giveaway to get a free gown to wear to their prom or senior formal event.  Complete details about the scholarship are available at www.abbyscloset.org

Habitat for Humanity Build Day: We need you! Spots are still available for the Habitat for Humanity work day on February 1st. If you are 16 or older you can help build a house on your day off! Students will receive 7 hours of community service. No building experience necessary. See Ms. Cook in room 281 for information and required waivers. A list of confirmed students volunteers are posted on the outside of room 281.

Tuesday, January 15th Portland Public Schools Indian Education Project is holding our Native Youth College Night. Learn about options for life after high school as over a dozen representatives from colleges, universities, trade schools and jobs corps throughout the Northwest are available to answer questions and discuss opportunities available to American Indian/Alaska Native students.  Please join us Tuesday January 15th from 6:30-8:30pm at Portland State University’s Native Student Center located on 710 SW Jackson Street.  Refreshments will be served and students will have a chance to win one of many exciting door prizes! All students are welcome!

Sophomores: Calling all IB-bound Sophomores!  Are you considering earning an IB Diploma in your junior and senior years?  Are you interested in hearing more about your IB options? Make an appointment in the SSC with the I.B. Coordinator, Jennifer Wiandt in January to create a 2-year plan for your IB coursework.

Learn about options for life after high school as over a dozen representatives from colleges, universities, trade schools and jobs corps throughout the Northwest are available to answer questions and discuss opportunities available to American Indian/Alaska Native students.  Please join us Tuesday January 15th from 6:30-8:30pm at Portland State University’s Native Student Center located on 710 SW Jackson Street.  Refreshments will be served and students will have a chance to win one of many exciting door prizes! All students are welcome!

Sophomores: Calling all IB-bound Sophomores!  Are you considering earning an IB Diploma in your junior and senior years?  Are you interested in hearing more about your IB options? Make an appointment in the SSC with the I.B. Coordinator, Jennifer Wiandt in January to create a 2-year plan for your IB coursework.

Habitat for Humanity Build Day:
We need you! Spots are still available for the Habitat for Humanity work day on February 1st. If you are 16 or older you can help build a house on your day off! Students will receive 7 hours of community service. No building experience necessary. See Ms. Cook in room 281 for information and required waivers. A list of confirmed students volunteers are posted on the outside of room 281.
