Locker Assignment Process for the 2016-2017 School Year:
Students who will be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior for the 2016-2017 school year will have lockers pre-assigned and printed on their schedule at Fall registration.

Sophomores: Please see Kim Anderson/Security outside the main office during lunch or during Flex/after school on Tuesday May 24th & Wednesday May 25th.  Please arrive to sign up WITH your locker partner and picture ID.

Juniors: Please see Kim Anderson/Security outside the main office during lunch or during Flex/after school on Thursday May 26th & Friday May 27th.  Please arrive to sign up WITH your locker partner and picture ID.

Seniors: Seniors are not required to have locker partners.  Lockers for seniors will be assigned over the summer and printed on schedules at Fall registration.

You are invited to nominate fellow CHS students who are BALANCED AND REFLECTIVE!  Do you know someone who excels at balancing the intellectual, physical, and emotional aspects of their lives? How about someone who is reflective, focused on learning from experiences, whether successes or failures?  Please take a moment to nominate deserving classmates who promote the well-being of themselves and others in these ways.  Nomination forms are available in the main office.   The deadline is Friday, May 27.  The Cleveland Clarion is proud to present another trivia contest in honor of our 100 year celebration! Try your best to answer the new question and if you answer correctly you’ll be entered into a drawing for a prize courtesy of the Clarion. The deadline to enter round six is May 25th, 2016 @ 3:00 p.m. Round five’s winner was  Terrell Cunningham who was mentioned in a write up that announced the correct answer for our fourth trivia question. You can find the link for round six of the Clarion Trivia contest on our website (clevelandclarion.com).

For those interested in participating in Cross Country next fall you are invited to a  short informational meeting this Friday 5/27 during lunch in Mr. Nims’ room, #115. Learn more about the practices and Warrior Running Camp held during the summer.

Yearbook distribution for seniors-only starts this Friday 5/27!  Pick up your copy from Mr. Levine on the LOADING DOCK (behind the school, by the gym) at lunch or before/after school.  If you haven’t ordered a copy, you may purchase one for $60.  (Note: distribution for everyone else will be next week!)

BIKE BUDDY DONATION DRIVE is today!
Friday May 20th at Cleveland High School Stadium from 3-5 pm. Please bring your bikes that you are no longer using to be refurbished, tuned and given to a Portland student that would not otherwise be able to have a bike. This is a program through the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, Portland Bureau of Transportation and Bikes For Humanity PDX.  Please bring us your old bikes!

Come see our Cleveland Company of Warriors perform a One Act at Homebase Cafe, 2620 SE Powell Blvd. this Sunday 5/22 at 3 pm. “When Ishtar Grows Dim” is a dramatic short play about four women and their experiences in the midst of war. Admission is free, but donations are welcome and all proceeds will be donated to refugees of war.

Support the Class of 2019 AND win a chance for two tickets to this summer’s Warped Tour.  Every dollar you spend at Burgerville between 5pm-8pm on Thursday, May 26th gets you a ticket!  Don’t miss out!  See you at Burgerville on 26th and Powell, Thursday, May 26th, from 5-8pm.

African student union and Asian student union will be hosting an International cultural fair on May 19th (Thursday) from 3:30-6:30pm in the CHS cafeteria. Join us as we experience various cultures through; food, poems, a fashion show and dancing.

Give your old bike to a younger Portland student that needs it: Bikes For Humanity PDX and BTA is running a BIKE BUDDY DONATION DRIVE at Cleveland High School on Friday, May 20th from 3-5 pm at the stadium by the athletic field, Cleveland Stadium. The bikes that are donated will be repaired and refurbished to give away to Portland students that do not have the means to get a bike.  This is a program through the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, Portland Bureau of Transportation and Bikes For Humanity PDX. Please look in your garage for a bike that you are not using and arrange to bring it to the Cleveland Stadium on Friday May 20th between 3 and 5 pm.  Please bring us your old bikes!

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER NEWS:
PCC in the CCC:
Thursday, May 19: Cleveland Grad Mateo Morales (class of 2015) is hosting a visit in the CCC this Thursday, May 19 during Flex (2:20-3:15 pm). Mateo has loved his first year at PCC. He wants to share his experience with future PCC students and talk about different supports that are available at PCC. He is specifically interested in speaking with students who may be the first in their family to go to college. Does that sound like you? Come see Mateo this Thursday in the CCC!

Pigmice fundraiser: Cleveland’s robotics team, is joining Burgerville at 25th and Powell for a Wednesday, May 18thh Partnership Night. All orders between 5-8 pm will generate funds to support students learning technology, business and leadership skills through FIRST robotics. Come see our robot in action.

Give your old bike to a younger Portland student that needs it: Bikes For Humanity PDX and BTA is running a BIKE BUDDY DONATION DRIVE at Cleveland High School on Friday, May 20th from 3-5 pm at the stadium by the athletic field, Cleveland Stadium. The bikes that are donated will be repaired and refurbished to give away to Portland students that do not have the means to get a bike.  This is a program through the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, Portland Bureau of Transportation and Bikes For Humanity PDX. Please look in your garage for a bike that you are not using and arrange to bring it to the Cleveland Stadium on Friday May 20th between 3 and 5 pm.  Please bring us your old bikes!

Donate Blood! Save Lives! CHS will be hosting their annual Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, May 25th. All students 16 and older are eligible to donate blood. Each pint of blood donated saves up to three lives. Sign up with any GNHS or Red Cross Club member, or on the sign-up sheet outside room 229. Sign-ups end on Friday, May 13th.

 Sweet Speeches Variety Show. Now that our Speech and Debate team won their 5th straight state championship title, they need to pay some bills.  Support them by attending Sweet Speeches on Thursday or Friday (May 12 and 13).  Doors to the Library Arena open at 6:30 p.m. $10 ticket.  This is a fast paced, inspiring, entertaining variety show where you could win a dessert. Support the cannibals by eating sugar — everyone wins!

JUNIORS!! Planning to work ahead this summer?? Want to crush your Common App essay? Come to the CCC on Wednesday, May 18th at 2:20 for the next FLEX Workshop, Essay Writing for the Common Application. Catherine Franke, award winning educator and writing teacher, will help you create an essay that’ll stand out. If you have an essay rough draft, bring it — Catherine may have time to read and give feedback. As always, snacks will be provided!

Data for Donuts-SENIORS!! On Thursday, May 12th from 11 to 3 we’ll have Voodoo Donuts in the CCC for students who come in and update their Naviance accounts with the following college information: Accept, Deny & Wait-List decisions, as well as the school you’ll be attending this Fall.

Multicultural Fair:
Come join us on Friday 5/13 in room 109 during lunch if you are interested in attending or participating in a Multicultural Fair on May 19th in the Cleveland HS Cafeteria. Everyone is welcome to join! This event is hosted by both the African Student Union and the Asian Student Union. If you cannot attend the meeting on the 13th please talk to Cooper Hull, Biftu Amin, or Zawadi Doti for more information.

CHS Cheerleading: Are you ready to show your Warrior Spirit? As a member of the Cleveland Cheer Team, you will be asked to step out as a leader, build relationships with a tight-knit group of peers and strive for excellence every day.
